A video of a football victory parade in Argentina has been passed off as a rally condemning the recent arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte.
The Facebook reel uploaded by pro-Duterte user Masahista ng Davao on March 12 showed a top view of a crowd at an event with title:
Recto manila right now 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺
The video bore the caption:
People power 2 🥺🥺🥺. Parang mga bubuyog sa dami Ng tao (The huge crowd resembled a swarm of bees).
Interpol Manila arrested Duterte last Tuesday based on an arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court on March 7. He will face charges of crimes against humanity linked to his administration’s war on drugs, which left up to 30,000 individuals dead, according to human rights groups.
While Duterte supporters gathered at Villamor Airbase, Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 and various cities in Visayas and Mindanao following his arrest, no huge demonstrations were held on Recto Avenue, Manila by the time Masahista ng Davao posted the video.
The video, originally posted by sports media outlet ESPN FC on YouTube on Dec. 21, 2022, shows four million Argentinians marching toward the obelisk in Buenos Aires after winning the FIFA World Cup that year, according to Google reverse image search.
As of writing, Masahista ng Davao’s video has garnered 806,000 views, 3,200 reactions and 6,700 shares. (RL, Tinig ng Plaridel)
