CLAIM: President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is blocking Elon Musk’s cryptocurrency platform in the Philippines.

RATING: FALSE

A deepfaked ABS-CBN News Patrol video surfaced on Facebook claiming President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. was blocking Elon Musk’s cryptocurrency platform in the Philippines.

The altered video showed  Musk allegedly saying in a forum that the Philippine government was “hiding his platform.”

Musk purportedly said that his platform could “help Filipinos earn millions of pesos per month with just an initial deposit of P15,000.”

It was followed by another deepfaked video of Marcos Jr. making a public statement that promotes the fraudulent crypto platform.

The video also contained a caption that read: “MISSED OPPORTUNITY OF THE YEAR: PBBM HID THE PLATFORM THAT COULD HAVE MADE EVERYONE RICH. FIND OUT HOW MUCH YOU’VE LOST – BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE.”

This is a potential scam, similar to another fact-checked incident in December 2024.

The original video was from a Feb. 19 ANC News Patrol episode. News anchor Stanley Palisada did not even mention anything related to Musk nor any cryptocurrency platform.
