NEEDS CONTEXT

A video circulating on Tiktok showing Vice President Leni Robredo saying there are still no vaccines in 2022 needs context.

In the interview taken from the DZRH program “Bakit Ikaw?: The DZRH Presidential Job Interview,” Robredo was asked by Gerry Baja about the COVID responses she recommended to Malacañang in June 2021.

The vice president recommended COVID responses to the Palace on June 30, 2020.

The video posted by cringemaster.02 on Feb. 2 only shows a portion of the vice president’s answer in which she inadvertently gave the wrong year:

Pero dati kasi, noong 2022 wala pang vaccine. Noong 2022 wala pang vaccine eh (Back in 2022, there were still no vaccines. In 2022, there were still no vaccines)..”

The name of the Tiktok account has since changed.

The Office of the Vice President later corrected the statement made by Robredo in its official transcript of the interview, replacing 2022 with 2020.

Fact Check: Robredo says there is no COVID vaccine in 2022

FactRakers is a Philippines-based fact-checking initiative of journalism majors at the University of the Philippines-Diliman working under the supervision of Associate Professor Yvonne T. Chua of the University of the Philippines’ Journalism Department. Associate Professor Ma. Diosa Labiste, also of the Journalism Department, serves as editorial consultant.

The name of the initiative, coined from the words “fact” and “raker,” is inspired by the term “muckrakers,” first used in the early 1900s by American president Theodore Roosevelt to express his annoyance at progressive, reform-minded journalists at the time.
